Coming Home To Yourself - "With Courage, Onward!"

Updated: Feb 7, 2021

I’ve been thinking a lot about courage lately. With so many aspects of my life changing (and continuing to change), how could I not think about what courage is and where it comes from? I considered writing this week about having the courage to speak up against injustice. I wrote in my journal about the courage it takes to be your authentic self. It certainly takes courage to face change and uncertainty. What connects all of the situations that require courage?

Fear.

When we feel fear, we tense up. Brace ourselves for what might come. If you brace yourself in order to be brave, you aren’t leaving yourself room to adjust to what happens. You’re stopping yourself from being able to adapt to change. What if you could reframe courage as openness in the face of fear instead of rigidity? Can you remain expansive in yourself even when things aren’t going how you want or expect them to? This week’s lie down is the first in a 12-week series that we’re calling “Coming home to yourself.” The first one is a little shorter than our previous talks, and it’s open-ended. We invite you to have the courage to not know the outcome.

Growth continues, even under less than ideal circumstances. (Photo by Alexandra)
