An opportunity to Rest and Reset led by teachers of the Alexander Technique
After three years of training together in Chicago as Alexander Technique teachers, Alexandra and Kateri are collaborating on a series of guided constructive-rest podcasts. These “lie down talks” are based on the principles of the Alexander Technique, and provide an opportunity to practice awareness and establish freedom and ease in movement through independent exploration. Each installment is accompanied by a newsletter, in which we deepen our understanding of the Alexander Technique, and explore its connections to our daily living.

What is Constructive Rest?
Constructive rest is a practice of lying down in a supportive position for about 15-20 minutes in order to allow your body to release excess tension, and your spine to lengthen. Incorporating constructive rest into your daily routine can help you to feel more embodied in your daily activities by promoting a sense of awareness and connection in movement.

We practice our lie-downs in supportive positions that promote the natural lengthening and widening of our bodies at rest. Two of the most practiced positions are "semi-supine" [shown left] and "prone" [below.] Our lie-down talks can also be adapted to lying on a bed or sitting on a firm chair, if getting up and down from the floor is not accessible to you.
