Do you ever stop to think about what moves you through space? I find it endlessly fascinating how a thought becomes an action. You can think that you'd like to move and how you'd like to move, and it translates into movement. It doesn't always become the movement that you've envisioned though. Sometimes that has to do with unconscious habits, and sometimes it has to do with an inaccurate picture of how you function. Sometimes it's both.
We all have unconscious habits - ways that we've learned to do things that happen seemingly automatically - but we don’t notice many of our habits in the flurry of constant motion that is daily life. So what if you could slow down and make a choice instead? Slowing down can provide a new perspective and a way to notice what happens in the moment when you think of moving - and in the moment you think about stopping the movement.
This week’s lie down guides you through the stages of thought into action that can allow you time to choose something other than your habit. The critical moment of changing a habit is when you can make a choice to:
Do what you had initially set out to do
Do nothing at all
Do something else entirely
